PECAN

PECAN

About us

Pecan exists to see an end to poverty in all its forms: we were created to address the most pressing needs faced by our community, but poverty is nuanced and complicated and the pressing needs expressed through the need for foodbanks, while important, is a symptom of the root causes (low income, debt, unemployment, poor mental and/or physical health, social isolation, loneliness, stigma, discrimination, lack of choice, poor housing etc.).

Pecan is raising money towards our services including: Together at Pecan Life-skills and Commuity activities), Employment Support, Women's Service, Southwark Foodbank and Peckham Pantry. These services provide a range of preventative and emergency support to members of our community. We can only continue to deliver the deliver our services through generous donations and fundraising efforts.

This year we have 5 spaces on Ride London, with a group of fabulous volunteers, the "Holy Rollers", a recreational cycling group of St Barnabas Dulwich. With members from both the congregation at St Barnabas and the local community, who are aiming to raise £500 each (£2,500) towards Pecan.

The Ford-RideLondon-Essex 100 route will set off from Victoria Embankment in central London, head past the Olympic Park and through the London boroughs of Westminster, City of London, Tower Hamlets, Newham, Hackney, Waltham Forest and Redbridge before coursing into Essex via Epping Forest.

Riders will then glide through some of the county’s most picturesque towns, villages and countryside – including Epping, Ongar, Great Dunmow, Felsted and Writtle – with a section of the route replicating the 2014 Tour de France stage that went through Essex and finished in London.

Once back in the capital, participants will complete their ride to rapturous applause at Tower Bridge – a jaw-dropping Finish Line for the 100-mile challenge.
