In 2018, my Army career was cut short when I was medically discharged with life-altering spinal injuries. Not only was my life turned upside down, I had to come to terms with living in constant pain and adapting to my new physical abilities.
The last few years have been anything but plain sailing but through the power of recovery sport and the Invictus Games Foundation's programme of events, I have not only found new confidence to try out new things but for the first time in a long time I am reconnecting with my peers and have purpose again.
I'm entering RideLondon in a bid to give back to the fantastic organisation that helps a community of wounded, injured and sick service people and veterans like me, but to also challenge and push myself and make my family proud.
It's going to be hard. My injuries have left me with severe weakness in my legs and I will be battling with pain... add to the mix that I hate cycling, it's going to push me to my limits!
Ford RideLondon is the world’s greatest festival of cycling giving you the rare chance to enjoy riding a range of distances on traffic-free roads throughout London and into the beautiful Essex countryside. The event inspires tens of thousands of people to get onto their bikes, to cycle more often and to take fewer trips by car.
Any support is greatly appreciated and will allow the IGF to continue to deliver the Invictus Games and many activities throughout the year. More information can be found here; https://www.invictusgamesfoundation.org
