Dr Raghbir Singh - Let's Fight Brain Cancer Together
My Story
I'm taking part for the first time in the 100 mile Ride London cycling event on 26 May 2024. I'd be hugely grateful if you could support me by donating to my chosen ride charity Brain Tumour Research using the link on this page.
This ride is dedicated to my daughters Amman, Gurshaan and Simran.
Did You Know?
Brain tumours are the number one cause of death from cancer in the under 40s. You may therefore be surprised to learn that these cancers receive a paltry 1% of the national spend on cancer research since records began in 2002. Let’s try to change that in the hope of improving outcomes for the future by supporting the incredible work of Brain Tumour Research, the only national charity focusing on finding long term cures for all types of brain tumours through campaigning to increase the national investment in brain tumour research to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK. Your donations could lead directly to better treatments and outcomes for the thousands who are diagnosed with this deadly disease every year.
Personal Battle
My brain cancer journey began when I was first diagnosed 17 years ago despite having no prior symptoms whatsoever. Back then my oncologist said “clearly someone is looking down on you from above because your cancer is in a location where we should be able to remove it through surgery relatively safely.” Clearly I was incredibly fortunate and after multiple surgeries and other treatments I’m able to enjoy a normal life without too many after effects. However others are not so fortunate and sadly during this time several members of my friend & family circle have succumbed to this disease.
Join the Fight
I know I’ve been incredibly privileged to be able to continue to enjoy life relatively unencumbered by illness so I feel its my duty to try to help in the fight against brain cancer for the sake of those are less fortunate. Can you help me by sponsoring my ride to raise vital funds for the Brain Tumour Research charity and improve outcomes for all in due course.
Training Progress
Thankfully preparations have gone extremely well despite experiencing my second ever brain seizure in March. My training rides have give me confidence that I'll be able to complete the full 100 miles within the allotted 8 hours without any issues hopefully 🙏🏼
Feb - 30 miles in 2:25hrs March - 39 miles in 2:59hrs April - 47 miles hill route in 3:42hrs + 33 miles in 2:24hrs May - 29 miles in 1:59hrs + 66 miles in 4:15hrs
On top of that I've also been doing strength training 💪🏻 as recommended by the experts 😁👍🏻
