My Story

Let’s conquer breast cancer together!

Last year, a close relative and a friend both discovered lumps in their breasts. Thankfully, they are both cancer-free today but it was a nasty, nerve-wracking wake-up call.

Did you know that majority of breast cancer patients, at least 7 in 10, living in low-income countries including sub-Saharan Africa, first present in the clinic when the disease is at the advanced stage? By this time, treatment possibilities have less benefit or are simply unavailable thereby leading to poor outcomes.

We all know someone whose life has been changed by this deadly disease. Maybe that ‘someone’ is you. Sadly, many women don’t live to tell the tale- even more so, the disadvantaged and/or those of poor resource settings.

But with early diagnosis, there's a 98% chance of surpassing the five-year survival rate. This is why I am partnering with CupArise, creators of the Mami app to give women in low-income countries, starting in Nigeria, a fighting chance.

Mami is a simple-to-use app that teaches and encourages women to examine their breasts regularly to detect and keep track of any unusual change. But more importantly, the Mami app connects these women to the health care they’ll need- fast!

By sponsoring my ride with Ford RideLondon 100, you will be joining me in supporting CupArise on their incredible mission to raise awareness through the Mami app and potentially save thousands--if not tens of thousands-- of women from breast cancer
